Cooperstown Girls Basketball Player Named WCDO Athlete of the Week

Hawkeyes Highlighted by Local Radio Station

Local radio station WCDO out of Sidney selected Lanie Nelen from the Cooperstown Girls Basketball team as its WCDO Athlete of the Week winner for the week of Dec. 15-20, 2025.

"Lanie is averaging 20.4 PPG this season for the Hawkeyes," WCDO said in a Facebook post announcing Lanie as the winner. "She fired in a career high 27 points in a recent contest against Stamford/Jefferson."

Lanie is the second Hawkeye to be selected as the WCDO Athlete of the Week over the last two months. For the week of Nov. 10-15, 2025, Brenin Dempsey from the Cooperstown 8-Man Football team was selected as the winner.

Brenin led Cooperstown this season with 1,600 passing yards and 16 passing touchdowns, plus an additional 600 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns. He finished with five school records in his career.
