Important Update
Good morning, CCS Community,
On behalf of the Board of Education, I would like to share an important update regarding district leadership.
Sarah Spross, who has served as our superintendent since March 2021, will be leaving the district on June 30 to pursue other opportunities. Ms. Spross will remain on leave until that time while continuing to care for her father.
Serving as superintendent is an extraordinarily demanding role, particularly during periods of significant change and challenge for public education. We thank Ms. Spross for her leadership and service to Cooperstown over the past five years, and we continue to extend our best wishes to her father as he recovers from a recent medical emergency.
As the district prepares for this transition, we would like to briefly outline the next steps:
• The Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 7:30 Friday morning to formally accept Ms. Spross’ departure from the district at the conclusion of the school year.
• John Evans will continue to serve as Acting Superintendent through June 30.
• In the coming weeks, the Board will appoint an Interim Superintendent to lead the district beginning July 1. The Interim Superintendent will serve in the role until a permanent superintendent has been appointed.
• The search process for a permanent superintendent will begin next month. We anticipate this process will take time, as it will involve not only the recruitment and vetting of candidates, but also thoughtful reflection and community input regarding the qualities and leadership characteristics we value most in our next superintendent. Our goal is to complete the process this fall.
As we move through this transition, the Board of Education will continue to provide updates at key points. In the meantime, thank you, as always, for your continued support of the students and staff of Cooperstown.
Sincerely,
Pete Iorizzo President, Board of Education
