Cooperstown CSD Board Appoints Ann Meccariello as Interim Superintendent

June 30, 2026
COOPERSTOWN – The Cooperstown Central School District Board of Education appointed Ann Meccariello as Interim Superintendent of Schools during its June 17 regular Board meeting. She began serving in the role earlier this week.

Meccariello will provide leadership and continuity while the Cooperstown Central School District Board of Education works with ONC BOCES District Superintendent Dr. Catherine Huber to conduct a confidential search for Cooperstown’s next superintendent. The search follows the departure of former Superintendent Sarah Spross, who served as the District Superintendent since 2021.

Meccariello is a retired superintendent from Campbell-Savona Central School, located in the Finger Lakes region of New York state. Her career began at Worcester Central School as a high school English teacher for five years. In 1998, Meccariello became the seventh grade English teacher at Cooperstown Central School and spent 23 years of her career in the District. She held many roles while at Cooperstown, including English Department Chair, Union President, and Elementary and Secondary Principal.

Meccariello has also been involved with many committees and organizations throughout her career. She has a strong background in strategic planning, curriculum development and instructional coaching. She is a member of the New York State Council of Superintendents, served as a Board member for New York State Insurance Reciprocal and was involved in many local initiatives while serving as Superintendent.

"I am honored and excited to return to Cooperstown Central School as an Interim Superintendent," Meccariello said. "Strong principles and traditions have guided and defined Cooperstown through the years, and I will support the District and those principles and traditions while the search begins for a new superintendent."

Meccariello succeeds Acting Superintendent John Evans, who led the District during the recent leadership transition. The Board expressed its appreciation for Evans’ service and support of the District. Meccariello began her role on Monday, June 29, and worked with Evans during a brief transition period before he concluded his service to the District on Tuesday, June 30.

“I look forward to working with the Cooperstown staff once again and welcoming our students and families in September as we begin another school year,” Meccariello added. “Go Hawkeyes!"
