COOPERSTOWN – The Cooperstown Central School District Board of Education appointed Robert Avery, of Cooperstown, as the new Assistant Superintendent for Business and Operations effective Aug. 10, 2026. Mr. Avery takes over for Ms. Liz Rickard as the District’s school business official.
Mr. Avery is a New York State Education Department-certified School District Business Leader who has worked in public education since 1997. Most recently, Avery served as the Director of Management Services for the Delaware-Chenango-Madison-Otsego Board of Cooperative Educational Services (DCMO BOCES), and prior to that as the Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations at the Morrisville-Eaton Central School District.
Mr. Avery currently serves on the Association of School Business Officials New York (ASBO NY) Board of Directors and was the President of Wisconsin ASBO in 2015-16. Mr. Avery relocated to New York state in 2017 to begin his work at Morrisville-Eaton.

The District would like to thank Ms. Rickard for her service this past year, filling in as Interim Business Manager following the retirement of longtime Assistant Superintendent Amy Kukenberger.
“The District is very fortunate to be able to hire a business official with Bob’s level of experience and expertise,” Interim Superintendent Ann Meccariello commented. “He is a respected school business official in the region, and we look forward to his leadership over our business office and support departments.”
Avery is married with two children, one a medical student at the University of Wisconsin, the other a third grader in the Cooperstown Elementary School.
