Last fall, Emily Rawitch’s poem “Atlas” received 2nd place in the WSKG Student Writing Challenge for the high school level in the poetry division. Following this recognition, Emily’s poem was then selected for the Pocket Opera Project.
This project was a collaboration between the Binghamton University music composition students, Tri-Cities Opera, and WSKG. The Binghamton University music composition students selected works from the writing challenge winners to create mini operas, which were performed by resident artist singers from Tri Cities Opera with a small orchestra.
The pocket opera performances were held on May 14, 2024, at the Tri-Cities Opera Center in Binghamton, and “Atlas” was the opening piece.
