"The function of education, therefore, is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character that is the goal of true education." Martin Luther King Jr.
Welcome to the Cooperstown Central School District
There are several reasons why Cooperstown Central School District (CCSD) is a district of choice for many families. Our hard-working staff is dedicated to meeting each child’s academic and social and emotional needs in and out of the classroom. Our School Board and district leadership are committed to providing each school with the necessary resources to ensure success. In addition to our outstanding staff and excellent academic instruction, CCSD offers music, art, and physical education to all students; band and choir to our fourth-eighth grade students; numerous athletic teams and extracurricular activities; a supportive and generous community; and most importantly, outstanding students.
One of our greatest strengths is the sense of community that radiates from each of our schools and throughout our district. Parents and community members give to our schools generously in terms of their time, talent, and resources. A key component of a successful and thriving community is how education and the educational experience is supported and valued by all community members. In CCSD we are appreciative of the support we receive, and our students are the true benefactors.
The foundation of our success is built upon several principles:
Our ability to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for students to grow and develop into the next generation of learners and citizens.
Integrating quality programs with innovative teaching strategies to develop skills that will serve the overarching needs of the community.
To implement cost effective strategies to ensure fiscal responsibility.
In recent years the concerns about school safety and security have been elevated because of incidents across our country and the recent pandemic. We continue to be proactive by regularly evaluating our procedures and practices and making necessary changes to improve the safety and security for all staff and students. Student and staff health, safety and security are extremely important to us, and we will continue to work closely to evaluate and improve our policies and practices.
Above all, please know that we view education as a process that can only reach its full value when all in a community work together. As Superintendent, I will utilize a systematic approach to needs assessment and allocation of resources as the main drivers of student success and look forward to the opportunity to serve the students, staff, and community of the Cooperstown Central School District.
Our Board of Education meets on the third Wednesday of each month, and I encourage you to attend a meeting. We welcome your involvement and feedback and wish you a wonderful experience in our schools. If you are interested in becoming part of the greater CCSD family, please come visit our district.
Sincerely,
Sarah Spross
