For the past three months, students in the High School Student Council have been working diligently on their project, Welcome Home, CCS. As part of a larger organization, Student Voices, Student Choices, schools from six districts were invited to participate. Students were asked to pinpoint an area of concern in their school community, partner with an outside organization, and put together and interactive presentation to explain the issue, discuss how the students would tackle the topic, budget for their needs, and speak on sustainability for their ideas. Paul Crowell, Allie Swart, Evie Baldo, and Emma Green presented at Hartwick College on November 25th to a panel of judges from Otsego County.
Our project, Welcome Home, CCS, partners with Welcome Home, Cooperstown. Students will be creating a variety of events to help new students acclimate to a new school. From creating a detailed brochure that will be handed to each new student, Hawkeye Guides who will be ambassadors for our school, to a community lunch (7-12) to celebrate the end of the school year, our High School Student Council students are dedicated to helping create a more welcoming environment for new students and their families. CCS was awarded $2,500 to begin their work.
Congrats
to our students! They worked hard and represented CCS with dignity, respect, and an extended metaphor on the power of sharing a meal.
