FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Tuesday, October 20, 2020 (Cooperstown, NY) - Cooperstown Central School District will place ALL K-6 students on fully remote learning beginning immediately and continuing through the remainder of this week. CCS Students Grades K-6 will NOT report for instruction to school buildings for the remainder of this week. Students in Grades K-6 should be prepared to begin remote instruction with their teachers beginning at 8:10am Wednesday morning October 21, 2020 through Zoom platform. Friday, October 16, 2020 (Cooperstown, NY) - Mr. Pollock (aka “Mr. Science”) visited Cooperstown Central School 2nd Grade students this week for hands-on lessons and activities in STEM. CCS students learned about electrons and protons while answering questions and making observations about static electricity. Mrs. Coleman, CCS 2nd Grade Teacher, was first at bat in demonstrating static electricity for her students!

Wednesday, October 14, 2020 (Cooperstown, NY) - The Cooperstown Chapter of National Honor Society has teamed up with the CCS Music Program to offer a fruit sale fundraiser this fall. The fundraiser is open to all and proceeds will be split between the two programs. All orders can be placed online. Deadline for online orders is November 22nd and orders paid by check or cash must be submitted directly to Monica Wolfe at CCS before the end of day on November 23rd. Cooperstown Central School Jr./Sr. High School English teacher, Chalya Pudlewski, has been selected as a fall 2020 Pulitzer Center Teacher Fellow in the track of Media, Misinformation, and the Pandemic. Pudlewski was selected from among 166 strong applicants from across the country to join a small cohort of multidisciplinary educators. Pudlewski will be attending workshops with award-winning journalists and developing curriculum materials for a research, journalism, and speech and debate unit with CCS students. Thursday, October 8, 2020 (Cooperstown, NY) - CCS Jr./Sr. High School Principal, Ann Meccariello, announced today that CCS students Ray Hovis, Mason Raffo, Nate Savoie and William Weldon have been named Commended Students in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, have been presented by CCS to these scholastically talented CCS Seniors. About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2021 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2021 competition by taking the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

CCS Jr./Sr. High School Picture Day is currently noted on the printed district calendar for October 15th. In an effort to accommodate our hybrid model, Picture Day will take place over a two day period, October 14th and 15th. Students in grades 7-11 will have their pictures taken on the date that corresponds to their assigned cohort in attendance on those dates. CCS families will receive an email from Lifetouch if they have placed a CCS picture order in the past, and all students will receive fliers during the first week of our hybrid reopening. Lifetouch will also offer a makeup day if students miss the October dates. If your child is currently enrolled as a fully remote CCS student, you will be notified by email to sign up for a timeslot on October 14th or 15th.

Our CCS Elementary School students were on point today, and our first day of opening was a smashing success! CCS Elementary School sends a huge thank you to all parents and guardians for doing your part. Our new drop-off procedure went smoothly and alleviated a back up at our door. Well done! Cohort B will be attending Tuesday and Thursday, and we are looking forward to greeting our students with another round of ukuleles, accordions, and staff cheering you through the doors. Special thanks to CCS Music Teachers, Mr. Iversen and Mrs. Hogle, for the wonderful live entertainment at drop-off today. Let’s go Hawkeyes!
